No Plastic in the Ocean is a high-impact project to combat marine plastic pollution. Scientists estimate that approximately 70% of the total weight of macroplastics in the ocean is made up of fishing equipment. Marine plastics and ghost nets pose a growing threat to marine biodiversity: they entangle species, degrade habitats, and fragment into microplastics that enter the food chain. Tackling the accumulation of this waste is essential to preserving the health of the ocean.

OBJECTIVE

The project aims to combat marine pollution by preventing new waste from reaching the sea and recovering plastic already present in the waters, including ghost nets.

LOCAL IMPACT Activities focus on the management of plastic and discarded fishing nets, in collaboration with local fishing communities.

TRANSPARENCY Each recovery is documented with certified blockchain reports, photos, and videos, to ensure maximum transparency.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY The recovered material can be reintroduced into the production chain, promoting a circular economy model.

AREA OF INTERVENTION

It is estimated that approximately 40% of plastic pollution in the Mediterranean comes from the Nile Delta, identified as the project’s primary area of ​​intervention. Fishing boats naturally intercept large quantities of plastic during their activities, contributing to the reduction of marine pollution. Thanks to the network of Nile Delta fishermen, this commitment translates into continuous and effective cleanups, with a significant impact on the Mediterranean ecosystem.

The species belonging to brown algae grows in shallow water and is exposed to sun and wind. It has to fight dehydration to guarantee the survival of its cells. For this reason brown algae has developed a protective membrane that is similar to our skin, designed to limit water evaporation from its connective tissues.
